Integration can be defined as the action of processing an experience. This is a very important aspect of energy work. It involves taking time and giving yourself space to become aware of how you are feeling - mentally, physically, and emotionally after a session. Integration enables you to get the most out of the energy work.
It is a different experience for everyone. The process can range from very subtle where nothing out of the ordinary is felt, to heavy where you have more noticeable symptoms. Healing isn’t a linear path. There can be times of joy and bliss but also times of heightened emotions and discomfort. Energy work is just that - work. Applying an effort to your integration process ensures this work is done correctly.
Supporting yourself throughout your integration:
After a session, there is often a period where people feel very free and light as though a weight has been lifted off them. In the days following, you may feel some physical symptoms eg fatigue, restlessness, headaches, etc. Cleansing in various ways can occur throughout bodily systems. You may also have emotional symptoms such as sadness, agitation, etc.
Integration can last for a few days up to a week or so, it varies from person to person. You may sometimes feel the energy still moving through you, in particular, when at rest/meditating. Again this is totally normal and a sign of further healing. While the session is over after an hour, the energy work continues within you. All of these symptoms signify further release of stagnant energy that no longer serves you.
Awareness of this is important, be gentle with yourself during this time - listen to your body.
Journaling is a fantastic tool to process energy work. It allows you to pour thoughts from your busy mind onto a page and make sense of them. It is highly recommended in the days following a session. See some basic journal prompts below to assist you.
